General Care Tips

To protect and care for your furniture, we suggest the following:

  • Avoid placing your furniture in direct sunlight, as sunlight causes fading.
  • Avoid extreme changes in temperature by arranging furniture away from radiators, heat and air vents and air conditioning units.
  • Avoid placing plastic or rubber materials (lamp bases, notebooks, placemats, etc) on your furniture, as certain plastics contain ingredients that may damage the finish.
  • Periodically rotate accessories on furniture so they do not sit in the same spot all the time and cause your wood product to age unevenly.
  • Use pads, cloth or felt to protect the furniture surface from plastic, rubber, hot dishes, beverages, bookends, flowerpots and vases.
  • Clean up spills immediately. Use a blotting rather than a wiping action. Water left over a long period of time will cause white spots in the finish. Alcohol, perfume, after-shave and medications can cause severe finish damage.
  • Use a protective pad (glass, leather, plastic, acrylic) when writing with a ballpoint pen on the furniture surface.
  • Lift and place objects rather than dragging them across the furniture surface.

  • Lacquered Wood & Veneer

This includes Jesper Office 900, 2000, 3000, 4000, Sit & Stand Desks and 9000 product finishes with lacquered wood veneer or recut wood veneer.

For normal cleaning, dust furniture weekly with a slightly damp, soft, lint-free cloth. Wipe the surface in the direction of the wood grain to remove dirt and fingerprints. Wipe dry with a clean, dry cloth.

Do not use aerosol-powered cleaners, polishes, waxes, abrasive cleaners, or oily polishes.

  • Oiled Solid Wood & Veneer

This includes the Jesper Office Highland 75 Collection.

For normal cleaning, dust furniture weekly with a slightly damp, soft, lint-free cloth. Wipe dry with a dry, soft cloth in the direction of the wood grain. Never use wax-based products (Pledge, Endust), aerosol-powered cleaners, polishes, waxes, abrasive cleaners, or oily polishes.

To maintain the solid wood, very lightly brush wood areas with a fine Scotchbrite pad moving in the direction of the grain to open the pores of the wood and remove fingerprints and dirt.

Only apply oil when the product looks dry.

To oil Highland 75 product wood parts, prepare the product prior to applying the oil:

Rub the entire surface with No. 000 steel wool in the direction of the grain to remove small surface mars, light scratches, and any build-up from previous oiling. Improve the appearance of deep scratches nicks, by sanding the wood veneer lightly with no. 360 grit sandpaper in the direction of the grain.

Apply small amount of gunstock (boiled linseed or tung) oil to a clean, soft, cotton cloth. Wipe small sections at a time in the direction of grain until the entire wood surface is coated. Be sure to apply oil to all exposed edges.

NOTE: Only apply oil on wood surfaces. Immediately wipe off any oil that makes contacts with steel parts. Wipe off excess oil with a clean, soft, dry cotton cloth and smooth in the direction of the grain.

Within 10 minutes, rub again with a soft dry, clean cloth until the entire surface is dry. After about three hours, polish with a soft dry, clean cloth.

Allow the oil to dry for 24 hours before working against the surface  to avoid transfer to clothing.

NOTE: Properly dispose of rags used with oil as they can accidentally combust. Rinse oily rags with water and hang over a line to allow air to get to all fibers.

  • Lacquered and Coated Surfaces

This includes the Jesper Office 500 (White and Black) Collection.

Products using lacquer may include tabletops, work surfaces, and storage/filing products.

For normal cleaning, wash the lacquered surface with a soft cloth and a solution of mild detergent and warm water. Rinse thoroughly and dry with a soft cloth.

For minor repair of burns or other stubborn marks, apply a nonabrasive liquid kitchen cleanser with a soft cloth soaked in warm water. Rub in the direction of the grain; use caution to avoid damaging the surface texture or gloss. If no grain direction is visible, rub with a light, circular motion.

Do not use powdered abrasives or other harsh cleansers like hypochlorite bleach, hydrogen peroxide, nitric or hydrochloric acids, or lye; they may deface the surface and change the finish color.

  • Laminate

This includes the Jesper Office 100 and 500 (Espresso) Collections.

Products using laminate include tabletops, work surfaces, and storage/filing products.

For normal cleaning, wash the laminate with a soft cloth and a solution of mild detergent and warm water. Rinse and dry with a soft cloth.

Do not use powdered abrasives or other harsh cleansers like hypochlorite bleach, hydrogen peroxide, nitric or hydrochloric acids, or lye; they may deface the surface and change the finish color.

  • Leather

This includes select Jesper Office Chairs.

Jesper Office leather is extremely soft, supple, durable, and resistant. To keep it that way, it’s important to care for your leather properly.

Over time, your leather furniture won’t look the same as it does today. That’s part of leather’s unique appeal.

Leather ages beautifully, each product taking on its own patina (a deep, natural luster) as the leather ages.

Leather is a natural material and, when properly cared for, it will maintain its beauty and appearance for many years to come. Leather may be the easiest to care for of all upholstery materials, however, there are a few special points to consider.

For normal cleaning, vacuum or dust frequently with a clean, dry cloth. If leather is soiled, it can be wiped with a soft, damp cloth using a lather of any mild soap with lukewarm water. Do not spot clean leather; clean the entire surface.

Wipe clean with a damp cloth and dry with a clean, soft cloth. For spots and spills, wipe excess liquid immediately with a clean cloth or sponge; let the leather air dry. If further cleaning is necessary, sponge the entire surface—seat, back, or chair arm—with lukewarm water.

For butter, oil, or grease, wipe the leather with a clean, dry cloth and let the remainder of the oil dissipate into the leather. Do not apply water or try to wash a grease spot.

Do not use saddle soap, cleaning solvents, oils, furniture polishes, varnishes, abrasive cleaners, detergents, or ammonia on leather; they will ruin the finish, causing it to become sticky and cracked.

  • Steal & Coated Metal

For normal cleaning, wash coated metal surfaces with a soft cloth soaked in detergent and warm water; rinse thoroughly and dry.

Remove scuff marks from low-gloss coatings with pre-softened paste wax, following the manufacturer’s instructions.

Remove scuff marks and scratches from high-gloss coatings using automotive polishing compounds, either liquid or paste. After polishing, apply a pre-softened automotive paste wax to restore original sheen.

  • Alumnium, Chrome & Nylon

Polished Aluminum

For normal cleaning, apply a pre-softened paste wax to polished aluminum components following the manufacturer’s instructions. In humid atmospheres near salt water, apply the wax once a month. In other areas, apply wax every three months to maintain the appearance of the aluminum.

Polished Chrome

For normal cleaning, wet cheesecloth in a nonabrasive cleaner, like liquid dish soap, and rub the chrome component lightly until the original luster reappears. Dry the component with a soft cloth to remove any soap residue.

Nylon

For normal cleaning, wash nylon chair bases with warm, soapy water. Rinse and wipe dry with a soft cloth. Do not use any solvents or abrasive materials.

  • Glass & Plastic

Glass

For normal cleaning, use products specifically designed for glass.

Plastic

For normal cleaning, wash plastic surfaces with a soft cloth soaked in mild detergent and warm water. Rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Do not use solvents or abrasive kitchen cleaners.
